ACF x ArtCentrica

Building AI-ready cultural knowledge infrastructure for African heritage.

The Africa Compute Fund and ArtCentrica are entering a strategic partnership to explore how African cultural knowledge, museum collections, archival materials, and historical resources can support the next generation of responsible AI systems, digital learning tools, and cultural technology applications.

The partnership brings together the Africa Compute Fund’s work across AI infrastructure, compute access, dataset coordination, model deployment, and the Monarch platform with ArtCentrica’s experience in museum digitization, high-resolution cultural imaging, digital education, interactive storytelling, and AI-assisted artwork interpretation.

As artificial intelligence becomes a major interface for how people discover, interpret, and learn about history, culture, art, and identity, it is increasingly important that African cultural knowledge is better represented in the datasets and systems that shape these tools.

The Africa Compute Fund and ArtCentrica will work together to explore how relevant cultural materials can be structured, enriched, and prepared for responsible AI use, including through improved metadata, contextual information, permissioned access, provenance, multilingual discovery, and educational applications.

Together, we aim to support more representative AI systems, richer cultural discovery, stronger educational tools, and new pathways for African cultural knowledge to participate in the future of AI.
