ACF x CINECA

A high bandwidth compute corridor for AI workloads.

The Africa Compute Fund has a technical integration with CINECA, one of Europe’s leading scientific computing institutions and a central node in Europe’s high-performance computing ecosystem.

For decades, CINECA has supported major research programs in physics, computational chemistry, climate modeling, engineering, and large-scale data analysis across universities, laboratories, and scientific consortia. Their systems represent some of the most advanced supercomputing capabilities globally, with a long lineage of supporting frontier scientific work.

Through this integration, the Monarch platform now interfaces directly with CINECA’s HPC environment, including the Leonardo supercomputer, enabling large-scale training runs, multimodal research pipelines, and compute-intensive experimentation on EuroHPC Tier-0 infrastructure.

We are accelerating research on our next generation of systems, using this compute to train and evaluate new models, and convert promising research into production-ready releases.

This establishes a high-bandwidth compute corridor between two independent institutions and creates a unified pathway for scientific workloads, foundational model development, and advanced simulation.

This collaboration was facilitated through ongoing coordination with the AI Hub for Sustainable Development, UNDP and aligned G7-supported programmes focused on accelerating scientific and computational capacity.
